Looked Over

TV Screens

Last night, I was watching the Phillies game at a pizza place down the street from my house. They had one of those fancy, high quality screens that is all clear and pretty. They also had three other TVs that were playing other sports games at the same time. That’s when it hit me. This thing is incredible. How long have TVs even been around? Like 60 years or so? In the grand scheme of things, that is not very long, but we have gotten to the point where looking at a TV is like looking into a window to another place (in my case, to¬†Cincinnati). It’s not just TVs either. I’m looking at my computer screen right now and at the push of a few buttons, I can look at live video feeds from all over the world. In Beauty and the Beast, the Beast had a “magic mirror” that could show the viewer what was happening anywhere they wanted. Yeah, you basically have about a thousand of those within a mile of you right now. I don’t usually like to call technology “magic”, because I’d much rather figure out how it works, but I think that this is one of those times when it almost seems appropriate. So, next time you’re watching TV, take a second to appreciate your magic mirror instead of just complaining about how your friend’s magic mirror is nicer than yours.
