I wake up to the radio every morning, but I rarely stop and think about what is going on there. Every morning at 6:50 am, I am greeted with some kind of news or traffic report from NPR. Basically what is happening is that someone talks into a microphone, their voice gets transformed into electricity, converted to radio waves, and spewed out into the air. Then my little alarm clock picks up the specific radio wave that the newswoman’s voice is in, converts it back into electricity, and then vibrates a tiny piece of paper in such a way that i hear her voice. Whaaaaaaa? This is one of those inventions that NO ONE could have invented at one time. Any one of these steps is pretty nuts by itself, but put together, it is just too much to handle. I’m glad that I get woken up every morning by a magical box of traffic reports.
